A love in verse

Our Girls Come to Gillingham

The thoughts that scourge me in the night

Cannot defer the living skies

Of dawn and morning’s hopeful light –

A joy of life that never dies

The girls just caught me as my bus

Drew up – they laughed and gave me kisses

So there’s our darlings and there’s us

To multiply a person’s blisses

Love is not doubled when two love

But multiplied by many  times

We and our girls are certain of

This powered blessing, this sublime

Sense that life has much to give,

And hope may succour us while we live.

But I’ll be brave in time between

Although the pickings may be lean...

“I Love Alison”

Darkness has won - though street-lamps soldier on

Still overall oblivion’s in the sky

Thick and ruthless enemy of the eye...
