When love and lust are turned to dust
And time has gone doolally
A butterfly will flutter by
And tell a flower with a sigh
“I once knew Pete and Allie”
“Of couples gay so perfect they
It was a treat to meet ‘em
Geneticists since drew up lists
‘We’ll copy them’ Science insists
But there was none to beat ‘em”
“They live quite far – a Heavenly star –
Love’s joys still on the menu
Their mansion’s sweet – paradise complete –
Yet it resembles, say those they meet
A certain house, in a humble street
Called Mafeking Avenue
“I’m going to die but I’m on a high!”
The butterfly said “Pardon
This oddity; life’s work for me
Has been to tell their story, see?
Now my reward – I’m going to be
With them. They’ve such a garden!
