A love in verse

Third Person Singular

I lift iced whisky mixed with lemonade

To lips I love, watch cigarette smoke

Caress the evening light to rise and fade

In ceiling gloom. Eyes meet and smiles invoke

The spell of lovers.  Along the Chesterfield

She lies full length, head propped by my raised knee

My hand entwines her dark, rich hair, the yield

Of love’s young years is now quiet ecstasy

Mahler’s Song of the Earth pervades the room

We listen, drink, breathe in the peace around,

With cats, green plants, anemones in bloom.

But one drinks elsewhere, other wine she’s found

Absorbed, absorbing, with blissfully closed eyes

At my love’s breast our baby daughter lies.

Good Times

At night come stars and poems

Stars dimmed sometimes but not the verse

Splendid in intention...

Growing Old

You feel beleaguered when you’re old

For what’s to come? Fuck all, you’d say

The last few sunsets slip away…
