You’re as wise as you are pretty
When you say to me “Let go”
And when I think it a monstrous pity...
The jobs, the seasons, come and go;
It’s sunny, raining, years go by.
You do not age and seem to grow...
In the night I find your hand
Squeeze and feel your pressed reply
The truth of love I understand...
We sit opposite at the table
You have reached your hand to mine
They clasp...
On my bonce to the right of the crown
A hallowed patch on my thatch I trow
‘Tis where your snazzy lips came down...
We all suffer separation
Some more than others – I
A self-absorbed of long duration...
Summer’s hiding over there –
Behind the hill, but in your eyes
I see the summer’s dreamy skies...
When time is old I fold my dreams
Within the earth and let them lie
Knowing that nothing’s what it seems...
No one can quite understand
Not young exactly THEN
The wildness of the Sixties...
I see you solo in the shadowy house
You move from room to room, you stroke a cat
You listen to a tape...
