He does his yoga, straining up,
She speaks to students, gives advice,
(One hand clasps the telephone...
The winter afternoon’s dim
Dimmer still the light through the pub window
Under which two wan people sit...
Elliot and Amanda
Once long ago
We nearly played them
They said “no”...
Summer’s last day it might be said
Holidays end, soon schools return
Then for another spring we yearn...
How much my love for you has cost me dear
For love I have surrendered loneliness
The choice of life bereft of cheer...
As fast as the day’s go down
The night lights up to newer love
The stars shine on no truer love
The Dalai Lama speaks to me:
“You need Nirvana – Freedom, see?
No longer one...
This the train then, this the seat
Which will carry, which will bear
A tired, loving, longing Pete...
Lights everywhere – long lights along a road.
Gold globes around a common estate
Small lights in high rise flats....
I hurt my heart in hurting you
It goes both ways I guess
Two hearts are wounded but it’s true...
