Never leave me
You won’t believe me...
Cass at the piano
On either side – we all look round
Towards the camera...
You lay on the bed, your words kiss my ears
Behind me you speak, resting in the heat
In the afternoon. The words my heart hears...
With mad abandon I assay
To tell your charms in pencilled lines
My pride and impudence hold sway...
I’m only cheerful cos I’m here
In a room with you
Your sleeping breath is soft and dear...
Chivalrous feelings restrain
A chap who is your worshipper
And yet the fact must remain...
In terms of worldly achievement, no,
Not an impressive report to make:
Like, nothing published, whilst long ago...
The stars will come soon
Down to the earth they’ll dip
To study you – they’ll bring the moon...
The vet could not have been more sympathetic
The kidney failure being quite advanced
The food ingested would become emetic...
There’s a word which to be blunt
Means love to me – but others hunt
A chaster word to bear the brunt...
